2 Detained Over Fire in Visa Agency Office

BENGALURU: Unidentified men set fire to the office of a visa processing agency at Mittal Tower on MG Road on Sunday night. Some documents were gutted in the fire and two staff members of another company were detained for questioning.  A senior police officer said the agency processed visas to different countries, including Israel. It collects applications and sends it to the concerned consulate.

At around 10.30 pm, a few men came to the office, threw a kerosene bottle near its door and set fire to it. The flames spread inside and burnt some files and documents stored in a cupboard. After a similar incident on August 2 last year, the owner had filed a complaint. “The owner has problems with the Mittal Towers’ association and some individuals from another office. We suspect the hand of some of his employees and another person, running a data processing centre for a private bank,” the official said. Fire services were not alerted as there was minimal fire and negligible damage, with no causalities. Staff helped douse fire.
