BENGALURU: Miscreants broke into a jewellery-cum-pawn store by drilling a hole into its wall and decamped with gold and silver ornaments in Basaveshwaranagar late on Thursday night.

The burglary occurred at Mangilal Jewellers located at Shankar Mutt Circle. The burglars also made away with the hard disk containing the CCTV footage.

Store owner Shankar Lal, in his complaint to the police, said he had purchased the house and store six months ago. A family, staying at the house, shifted four months ago. There is a passage between the shop and the house under the staircase.  The burglars gained entry into the shop after drilling into the wall under the staircase. They escaped with 800 gm gold and silver ornaments.

It is said that locals had pawned ornaments to Lal, a pawn broker. When they learnt about the incident, they gathered in front the shop and appealed to the police and the local MLA to nab the accused soon.
