BBMP Gives Rs 3 Crore for Floods in Chennai

BENGALURU: Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) staff, along with councillors across party lines, gave Rs 3 crores to the Chennai Relief fund. A day’s salary of the BBMP staff and monthly honorarium given to councillors were donated.

Speaking to reporters, Mayor B N Manjunath Reddy said that earlier too the Palike has sent money to other states which were victim of natural calamities. “This time, we wanted to help Chennai. The BBMP staff, including the pourakarmikas, from eight zones as well as from the central office, contributed a day’s salary to the relief fund. Altogether, the amount comes to around Rs 2.5 crore,” he said.

Mayor further said, this apart, one month honorarium of all 198 Councillors will be given to Chennai relief fund. “Irrespective of our party affiliations, all of us unanimously decided to hand this over, which is Rs 17 lakh,” he said. “We will make it add up to Rs 3 crore and hand it over,” he said. “We have not decided whether to give it to Chief Minister Siddaramiah to be handed over to Tamil Nadu government or if a team of Councillors should go to Chennai and hand the money over in person,” he said.
