Harassed Over Dowry, Woman Kills Self

BENGALURU: A 23-year-old woman committed suicide in Benson Town on Monday, allegedly over dowry harassment.

The deceased has been identified as Ammu, wife of Gajendra, who is a mechanic. Police said Ammu hanged herself from the ceiling after Gajendra left for work. When he returned in the evening and no one came to open the front door, Gajendra knocked it down and found the body. He alerted the police, who rushed to the spot and sent the body for autopsy.

Ammu’s parents have filed a case against Gajendra stating that he had been harassing her over dowry and demanding `1 lakh. He allegedly called her parents up recently and threatened to send Ammu back to them if they did not pay up.

Gajendra has been missing ever since the complaint was lodged.

Girl Found Dead

A 24-year-old woman ended her life by hanging herself at her house on Monday. The deceased, Manjula, was a resident of Marenahalli. She was living with her parents and was pursuing post-graduation in Commerce at a private college.

Police said Manjula locked herself in her bedroom on Monday evening, and when she did not come out after a long time, her parents  knocked on the door. When there was no respond, her cousin broke open the door and found her hanging from the ceiling.

Manjula was rushed to a private hospital, where she was declared brought dead.  No suicide note has been found, but preliminary investigations have revealed that her parents planned to get her married soon against her wishes. They are said to have fought over the matter recently.
