Mob Sets Fire to Truck That Ran Over Youth

BENGALURU:  Tension prevailed on Chandapura Road near Hebbagodi after a furious mob set fire to a truck that killed a 22-year-old biker on Saturday.

According to sources, reckless driving and potholes on the road is to be blamed for the incident. Hebbagodi police who rushed to the spot controlled the situation.

The deceased, Shivakumar, was a resident of Iblur and was an auto driver by profession.

The police said the incident occurred around 6.30 pm when Shivakumar was returning home on his two wheeler after visiting his friend’s house.

He was heading towards Anekal and lost balance after his bike bumped in to a pothole on the busy road.

Meanwhile, a speeding truck which was coming from behind ran over him, killing him on the spot. The driver managed to escape and the locals who noticed the incident staged a protest against officials for not maintaining the road. They also set fire to the truck and blocked Anekal- Chandapura Road for a while. Hebbagodi police rushed to the spot and controlled the situation after a mild lathicharge. The police convinced the locals that they will take action against the concerned.
