5-day Ayush, Yoga Event from Jan 3

BENGALURU: The city will host the five-day International Ayush and Yoga Conference from January 3.

Delegates from over 20 countries will attend the event which will be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. It will be held at Prashanti Kuteeram in Jigani.

Health and Family Welfare Minister U T Khader told reporters here on Wednesday that around 20,000 delegates are expected to participate.

Experts in various disciplines of medicines, including Allopathy and Ayurveda, will also attend the event, he said.

“For the first time, the focus will be on heart, kidney and brain diseases as well as diabetes and cancer,” the minister said.

Reiterating that the state government has taken measures to introduce Yoga in schools, he said, “We also have plans to introduce Yoga classes in universities. This will be discussed with the Union Human Resource Development Minister Smriti Irani.”
