Earthmover on Wrong Way Kills Engineer

BENGALURU: A 25-year-old civil engineer was killed while his friend escaped with injuries after their two-wheeler rammed into an earthmover that was coming on the wrong way without its headlights on.

The incident occurred on YD Mutt Road at Koramangala near Adugodi on Thursday night.

The deceased Anith M was a resident of Balappa Layout in Adugodi and was a contractor with the BWSSB. His friend Nuthan is recovering in a private hospital.

The police said at 12.30 am, Anith was returning home on his two-wheeler with his friend when he rammed rammed his vehicle into the oncoming speeding earthmover.

The earthmover was coming in the opposite direction on the one-way road and the driver also did not switch on the headlights or indicator. Anith received severe injuries thought he was wearing a helmet. Passersby rushed both to a private hospital, where Anith was declared brought dead. The earthmover was hired by the BBMP to lift garbage. The owner of the earthmover and the driver absconded after the incident, an investigation officer said. Adugodi Traffic police seized the earthmover and have ruled out that the friends were under the influence of alcohol.
