No Bail For Techie Who Murdered Wife

BENGALURU: The sessions court has rejected bail to M G Gokul (33), a software engineer accused of murdering his wife in July.

However, the XLIX Additional City Civil and Court granted him bail in two other cases related to a bomb hoax call to Kempegowda International Airport and an SMS threat to Bharti Enterprises chairman Sunil Bharti Mittal.

Gokul was arrested after he confessed to murdering his wife with an intention to marry his classmate, who was also married and living in the same apartment complex.

While dismissing the bail plea in the murder case, judge B Muralidhara Pai, in his December 19 order, said that the material on hand prima facie indicate that the prosecution has already covered a substantial part of the investigation. “If we take that into consideration, it is to be held that Gokul has not made out a case for bail at this stage. Hence, his petition is dismissed,” the judge said.

In his bail petitions, Gokul has said that he is the father of a minor child, who depends only on him for her livelihood and that his mother suffers from acute cancer. He also said that he comes from a respectable family and was not involved in the crime. As he has been already taken him into custody for interrogation, the prosecution does not require his presence and there is no apprehension of any intimidation as the identification parade is already over,

he said.

The prosecution told the court that Gokul had murdered his wife, suspecting her fidelity, as well as with an intention to marry his classmate. On the intervening night of July 28 and 29, 2015, Gokul hit his wife Anuradha on the head with a Ganesha idol in their house, when she had consumed alcohol. It was a pre-planned act, the prosecution said.

The prosecution also told the court that before murdering Anuradha, Gokul had created several e-mail IDs and communicated with his wife, so as to create suspicion about her fidelity. There are allegations that Gokul sent a hoax message of bomb threat and demanded money from BIAL and others, with an intention to implicate the husband of his classmate in those cases so that he could marry her. The case of murder is pending before III ACMM, Bengaluru and the case is under investigation.

Bail in Other Cases

The court granted bail to Gokul in two other cases  a hoax bomb call made to Kempegowda International Airport and an SMS threat to Mittal.

“Gokul had allegedly sent hoax messages from his house in HSR Layout. Thereby, it becomes clear that the alleged act was not direct and overt so as to endanger the safety of an aircraft in flight,” the court said.
