BBMP Asphalts Road, BWSSB Digs it Up

BENGALURU: Lack of coordination between the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) and the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewage Board (BWSSB) has led to the digging up of a freshly-laid road in Jayanagar.

The road on the 29th Cross in 7th Block was completed last week as part of a project that included asphalting of roads between Krishna Rao Park and Banashankari Bus Stand. The cost of the project that covered three wards — Yediyur, Karisandra, Shakambari — was `4 crore.

The BWSSB had dug up the road twice in the past six months to connect the water mainline to sublines.A resident, who did not want to be named, said, “Since my house is old, the road work has been creating minor quakes.”

A shopkeeper said, “It is unfortunate that they dug up the road the very next day. We were glad that the work that was taking forever was finally done.”

Ramesh, assistant engineer, BBMP, said, “We had chosen a few spots for  BWSSB work and left 1.5 metres for them to dig up. But still they have ruined the newly-asphalted road.”

Ward Councillor Yashoda Lakshmikanth said, “We had informed the BWSSB about our plan. This was a mistake on the contractor’s part. We have held a meeting and we will fix the road soon.”
