BENGALURU: In order to accommodate the participants of the Indian Science Congress, being hosted by the University of Mysore (UoM) from January 3 to 7, inmates of the university’s hostels are being asked to vacate.
While inmates of women’s hostel have already vacated, men have remained adamant.
Protesting the move, a group of UoM students staged a protest against the varisty authorities here on Wednesday.
Gurumurthy, a student said students from various parts of the state, who had preferred to stay at the hostels to prepare for exams were forced to vacate. The exams will commence from January 11, he said.
“Even though we had staged protests twice, for asking us to look for alternative accommodation, our pleas had not been heard,” he added.
Several organisations, under the aegis of Save Universities Forum, staged a demonstration at Freedom Park. They also submitted a memorandum to the Governor, urging him to initiate criminal action against UoM and Karnataka State Open University VCs and others who have been indicted in the Justice K Bhakthavatsala report.
