NSUI State Prez, 2 Others End Lives in Separate Cases

BENGALURU: Two women and a man committed suicide in the city on Tuesday.

The deceased were identified as Hemalatha (24), Asha (24) and Siddaveera (29), who was the state president of the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI).

Hemalatha, a resident of Ashraya Nagar and wife of painter Doddasiddaiah, ended her life by consuming poison at her house in Thalaghattapura.  Police said the incident took place on Tuesday morning when Hemalatha was home alone.

Doddasiddaiah found her body when he returned home from work and informed the police.

No suicide note was found but Hemalatha’s parents held Doddasiddaiah responsible, saying he had been harassing her for dowry.

Asha was found hanging from the ceiling at her house at Vrushbhavathi Nagar in Soladevanahalli near Peenya. Asha was married to Ganjendra, a private company employee in Peenya, and the couple have a four-year-old son.

The incident took place in the afternoon and Asha was alone at home, police said. Manju, a neighbour, allegedly spoke to her obscenely. She informed her brother, who checked in on her in the morning. But after sending her son to school, Asha hanged herself.

When her son returned, there was no response when he knocked on the front door. He alerted the neighbours, who broke open the door and found Asha’s body.  Asha’s mother has filed a complaint against Manju, who is absconding.

Siddaveera, hailing from Kanakpura and resident of Bhairaweshwara Nagar on Nagarabhavi Road, consumed poison at his house last Thursday, according to police sources. He then informed his friends who live in the same area and they rushed him to a private hospital in Vijayanagar. He was shifted to another private hospital, where he succumbed on Tuesday.

Chandra Layout police found a suicide note at Siddaveera’s house holding no one responsible for his action.
