Five Jobless Youths Held for Robberies

BENGALURU: Basaveshwaranagar police on Thursday arrested a gang of five allegedly involved in robberies in and around the city. Police claimed they have solved eight cases with the arrest.

The arrested are Govindaraju alias Govinda alias Raju, Ramu, Punith, Nitya, and Kiran alias Sholay alias Kaatu. All are aged between 20 and 23 and unemployed, and four of them are school drop-outs.

According to police sources, the gang used to threaten people with lethal weapons and snatch their gold jewellery and other valuables.

After collecting information about the gang, police caught them red-handed on West of Chord Road while they were planning another robbery.

During the interrogation, the accused are said to have confessed that they would randomly attack and rob people. If the victims resisted, they would stab them and make away with the loot.

Police said a special team was working on the increasing number of robberies at night around Basaveshwaranagar, Mahalakshmi Layout, Vijayanagar and Subramanyanagar.
