BENGALURU: In the wake of Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) elections, City Police Commissioner has ordered all the firearms licence holders to deposit their weapons with the jurisdictional police stations on or before August 10.

As part of the model code of conduct, which came in to effect on July 17, the issue of licence for arms will be totally prohibited. The prohibition will continue to be operative till the completion of the election as notified.

However, Central and state government departments, public sector and other private sectors like banks, security agencies and Class-1 gazetted officers are exempted from the enforcement.

Individuals seeking exemption from depositing their firearms in exceptionally deserving cases can file their applications stating the reasons for seeking exemption before the deputy commissioner of police of their respective jurisdiction on or before August 10.

The licence holders, who do deposit their weapons, will be able to get their weapons back if they approach the concerned jurisdictional police officers after August 26.
