An original play based on letters and articles exchanged between Mahatma Gandhi and Rabindranath Tagore will be staged in the city this week.
Presented by Bangalore Little Theatre, the play explores the correspondence between two visionary men over a span of 25 years. The exchange reveals how the two personalities differed significantly on the form and content of the freedom movement.
Although the differences widened over the years, they maintained genuine respect for each other. The script is developed from a manuscript compiled by Shailesh Parekh (now published as Gandhi vs. Tagore by Viswa Bharati). The Prophet and the Poet is the sixth play in the History of Ideas programme, producing plays based on the lives of great personalities.
The Prophet and The Poet, a play by Bangalore Little Theater in association with Azim Premji University will be staged on May 8 at Alliance Française de Bangalore, 108 Thimmaiah Road, Vasanthnagar, Bangalore - 560052.
