BENGALURU: Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike on Sunday warned site owners who have not fenced their properties, which are turning into garbage dumping yards.
BBMP administrator T M Vijay Bhaskar said the Palike would issue notices to owners who do not comply, and impose penalties on them. The quantum of penalty and the action being proposed will be worked out soon.
BBMP has already instructed assistant executive engineers and assistant engineers of all wards to impose penalty on owners of sites if they dump construction debris on sites next to their house and on the footpaths.
“A few owners are waiting for the commercial value of their land to shoot up to give it up for joint ventures and reap benefits. So they are not bothered about garbage and people living around the site. We will prepare a list of owners and will issue notices,” said an official.
Door-to-door Collection
Officials from BBMP’s Solid Waste Management Department say the problem of garbage being dumped in open sites can be minimised if pourakarmikas collect waste from all the houses.
BBMP Commissioner G Kumar Naik said the public can join hands with BBMP and send pictures and addresses of sites where garbage is being dumped.
The officials will be sent to the spot and the issue will be resolved, he said.
However, residents of several areas complain that collection of waste is not happening on a daily basis.
Secretary of Sammilina Resident Welfare Association, HRBR Ist block, Banaswadi, Arputha Rajan says, “Waste is not being collected on a daily basis. Moreover, the pushcart used to collect waste is not of adquate size and many people dump waste in open sites. The other reason, particular to Banaswadi area, is that people party in open sites and leave the waste behind.”
