BENGALURU: Subramanyapura police on Monday arrested a youth on charges of sexually assaulting a 16-year-old girl.

The accused has been identified as Arun (20), a resident of Uttarahalli and a cab driver by profession.

According to police sources, Arun promised the girl, studying in ninth grade, that he would marry her, and took her to Dharmasthala on August 24 for five days. It was there that he sexually assaulted her.

The girl’s mother registered a case against Arun at Subramanyapura police station last Friday.

Upon returning on August 30, Arun left the girl at his relative’s house. On hearing this, police raided the house and rescued the girl. Arun was then made to appear before a court, which remanded him in judicial custody.

Youth Stabbed by ‘Friends’

A 26-year-old call centre employee died after being stabbed by three men in Ramamurthy Nagar police limits on Sunday.

The deceased has been identified as Shashank Srinath, a native of Mangaluru who was residing in a rented house along with his friends in Kasturinagar.

Police have arrested Daniel (19), a student, Jayanth alias Ajay (23), a businessman, and Vasudev (21), a private company employee. They are all residents of Hoysalanagar and are said to be friends of Shashank.

A senior police officer said that the incident took place late at night when Shashank went to a party with his friends. While returning home, Shashank allegedly picked a quarrel with Daniel for blowing cigarette smoke at his face.

In a fit of rage, the other three attacked Shashank and stabbed him with a knife. The night beat police rushed to the spot and took Shashank to a hospital, where he was declared brought dead.
