100 yrs of gobblefunk, and a b'day party

BENGALURU: To celebrate 100 years of a Roald Dahl who revelled in onomatopoeia, the play of sound and meaning, a dramatised reading of his works will be held today at the Humming Tree.

Theatre artistes from Mumbai and trained in New York and Australia will be part of the show. Dr Akash Khurana, artistic advisor to the NCPA Repertory Theatre and who acted in 60 films and written 20 screen plays, will be participating. There will also be other performers from NCPA. Vidhi Jain, the cultural and creative head at The Humming Tree, says that she loves Dahl for saying so much without spelling it out.

She finds him “extremely addictive”. The theme of the show will be a birthday party, so expect many balloons and candy.  I love Roald Dahl for saying so much without spelling it out. He’s extremely addictive, which is great for a reader, she adds.  There will be a cotton candy stall, a pop-up bookstore with the author’s books and there will be the Wonka’s Sweet Bar.  On entry, people will be handed over a Golden Ticket vent, which can later be used as a bookmark.
