Madrasas Adopt CBSE-based Modern Syllabus

BENGALURU: Madrasas in the state are in the process of adopting new syllabus and textbooks that are distinctly different from the current syllabus.

Over 1000 madrasas in Bengaluru, Vijayapura, Davanagere and other districts are in the process of adopting the new syllabus prescribed by the Islamic Educational Board of India (IEBI) and more are likely to do so, president of the IEBI's Karnataka chapter, SSA Khader told Express on Sunday. The new syllabus focuses on providing Islamic education in different languages, including Kannada in a step by step manner to students from Classes 1 to 12, he said.

Teachers, who are trained at the IEBI campus in Banashankari in the city, will handle the subjects and IEBI proposes to form district-level committees consisting of Islamic scholars and mosque administrators to carry forward the movement, he said.

IEBI Executive Director Hamid Raza said the new syllabus was prepared keeping in mind CBSE form of education and it also gives lot of emphasis on moral education.  State-wide Survey  The board is preparing to launch a survey of all mosques and madrasas in the state for a detailed database that will also enable them to provide online education to young students.

All preparations have been made and the survey will be started soon after the end of the current academic year, Khader said. 

Concern over ISIS 

A special conference of 'Ulema Mashaikh' (Islamic spiritual scholars) from different districts in the state and also from other states was organised on Sunday to discuss various issues including the IEBI syllabus and the present scenario Muslims are facing across the country including poverty, unemployment and demand for equal opportunities.

"At the conference, scholars discussed various issues including the ISIS terror organisation and expressed concern over its influence among some people," Khader added.
