BENGALURU: A smart RO purifier, equipped with digital technology, has been introduced in the market by Kent RO Systems Limited.

The touch-operated water purifier Kent Superb comes with an in-built micro-controller which senses water quality on real-time basis and displays it on the digital screen, Varun Gupta, Director, Kent RO Systems Ltd, told mediapersons on Wednesday.

It also senses and displays the total dissolved salts (TDS) in the purified water as well as the filter life. It automatically warns users when the filter life is less than 60 hours, he added.

Commenting on the Indian water purification industry, Gupta said, “The market for RO water purifiers is growing at a CAGR (compounded annual growth rate) of 24 per cent and it will touch 2.48 million units in next two years. However, in terms of penetration it is less than 1 per cent.”

However, with an increasing awareness for safe drinking water, cities in the south, like Bengaluru, Chennai and Hyderabad, are emerging as the key markets and we want to increase brand penetration, he added.

Kent also developed Kent Gold, suitable for entry level and in rural India, where ground water is heavily contaminated by arsenic.

Enjoying a 40 per cent share in the RO market, Kent RO is looking at Rs 1,000 crore turnovers by 2016-17. The company, with its manufacturing unit in Roorkee, is planning to set up new another facility investing Rs 100 crore. It also plans to introduce another product line, which includes air purifiers and cold process juicers, the release added.
