Fitness can be crazy fun

A hundred sit-ups or a vigorous walk around the park is hardly fun, only essential. But the city offers exciting alternatives to keep fit. Milonee Sanghvi takes a look at some

BENGALURU:

Aerial Yoga

You’ve tried weights and pull downs but what about gravity. In aerial yoga, you have to stretch and pull against it because it involves performing yogic postures, but... suspended from a hammock! This is the one stop solution to all the back and joint problems from being confined to a chair all day. It also boosts blood flow and increases flexibility. Aastha Gulhati who runs Nivesaa says, “It’s a new and fun way to practise yoga!”

Outdoor Group Workouts

For all those who like to be adventurous and still make a workout session out of it look no further! At Group Ex Fitness, they believe that your body is a machine and it does not require the help of another to function properly. They offer a wide range of outdoor workouts, such as rock climbing, workouts on the street, workouts in parks, boot camps, etc. along with a wide range of innovative indoor workout exercises. You can choose what you prefer and set a workout routine for yourself accordingly.

They also offer different fitness packages for men, women and children.

Aqua Aerobics

Some of us just can’t get enough of pools. So here’s aqua aerobics for you, where you get to cool off the summer heat in the pool, while shedding a few pounds. The water acts as a resistant and its buoyancy keeps the joints safe from injury. The cardio limit of the body is also pushed and the core is constantly being worked, resulting in an abs workout. The best part is that you can comfortably and smoothly do all the exercises that are difficult to out of water. Pooja Arora, who runs ‘Shape up with Pooja’ says, “I’ve had clients who are 50 years old and clients who were once afraid of water and they all love my classes now!” It also involves using flippers, dumbbells, leg weights, etc. to increase resistance.

Indoor Group Workouts

If you’re tired of regular gyms, try working out with tyres or even people instead of cold machines. Hyper Monkey offers an intense workout called ‘Death By Monkey’ which involves indoor exercises such as animal walk, which tones all the muscles in your body. What’s even better is that, every class is different. So you never have to do the same workout twice!

Laughter Yoga

When was the last time you laughed till your stomach hurt? Laughter releases serotonin, which reduces stress. It has been proven that people, who are stress-free, tend to perform better overall. Laughter Yoga is open to anyone from the age of 5 to 105. Rahul R, a certified laughter yoga coach says, “In today’s world, people have lost their natural instinct to laugh. It has to be induced.” So practise your best laugh, because it’s time to be stress-free!
