Government sanctions water supply project for 110 villages

BENGALURU: The government has issued an order approving modification of a Detailed Project Report by the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board to provide water supply to 110 villages at a cost of Rs 1,886 crore.

Narasimha Murthy, Chief Engineer, Projects, told Express the order was issued on October 18. “The government will bear two-thirds of the cost while BWSSB will bear the remainder,” he said.

The Board’s consent will be sought shortly. “Tenders will be called, then works will begin in these areas,” he said.

Of the amount sanctioned, Rs 1,586 crore will go towards infrastructure work, while Rs 300 crore will be spent for the water supply project. The 110 villages were added to the erstwhile Bangalore Mahanagara Palike in 2007 along with the seven City Municipal Councils and one Town Municipal Council.
