BENGALURU: A middle-aged woman, who narrowly missed boarding a Metro train from Vidhana Soudha Metro station to Mysore Road around 5.45 pm on Tuesday, took out her rage on a security guard at the station.
As she was running towards the train whose doors were closing, a security guard stationed there, who was signaling the driver to move on, warned her not to rush to the train.
“As soon as the train left, the woman, in a fit of rage, caught the guard by his throat and abused him,” said Mithlesh Kumar, security supervisor of the private security firm, BVG India Ltd, who witnessed it.
Security guards are taught to raise both their hands and bring their palms together to send a signal to the driver to move on, Kumar said.
The staffer involved, Immanuel Haq, did not commit any mistake. “It was only in the interest of the safety of the passenger that he did that,” Kumar said. Choking his throat, the woman screamed at him that he deliberately made the train leave without her.
Meanwhile, other passengers crowded around and the station controller had to intervene. “Women security guards were brought immediately and the woman was asked to come to the Control Room to explain her behaviour. She refused and took the next train,” said an official.
An IT professional present at the scene confirmed the incident to Express.
War of words between passengers and security personnel sometimes happen during peak hour rush, said a Metro official. “Passengers need to show some patience. A few of them actually expect a train to wait till they arrive!” he added.
