Pravasi Divas fete to be held in Bengaluru

BENGALURU: Pravasi Bharatiya Divas will be held in Bengaluru for the first time, from January 7-9.

The state government has already started making preparations for the high-profile event and a high-level meeting chaired by Industries Minister R V Deshpande was held on Saturday to discuss the modalities.

Deshpande said the event will be attended by President Pranab Mukherjee and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The biennial event, organised by the Ministry of External Affairs, will be the 15th edition and will be held at the Bangalore International Exhibition Centre on Tumkur road.  The second day will be attended by Prime Minister Modi, who will hold a live interaction with Indian community from five countries. The third day will be attended by President Pranab Mukherjee who will distribute the Pravasi Bharatiya Samman awards.  Minister for IT/BT and Tourism Priyank Kharge, along with MEA officials, also attended the meeting. Deshpande said the state had registered the Investors Karnataka Forum to attract investments to the state. The Forum is headed by Deshpande and eight others members.
