'Driver was going at 120kmph, lost control'

BENGALURU: Madiwala traffic police on Monday arrested a cab driver, M N Narasimhamurthy, who allegedly drove his car on two motorcycles, killing both riders, on Sunday night. One person was severely injured in the accident on the busy Expressway on Hosur Road.

A senior police officer said that based on information, Narasimhamurthy was nabbed from his home in Gollahalli near Electronics City. During interrogation, he revealed that he was overspeeding as he needed to reach the Majestic bus stand urgently.

He was going to pick up his relatives and after the accident managed to escape when people rushed towards him, intending to assault him.

“I was driving over 120 km an hour and lost control over the vehicle on the flyover. The vehicle first rammed into a bike and then the bike crashed into a scooter, which Tirupathi Reddy was riding. I left my cab and ran away from the spot,” Narasimhamurthy confessed during the interrogation.

Shailaj, a resident of Austin Town, and Tirupathi Reddy (45), of Andhra Pradesh, were the two killed on the spot in the mishap.

Shailaj Jaikumar (35), who was thrown in the air and fell down along with his bike from the flyover, was on his way home after collecting cash from a hotel.

Samuel, Shailaj’s elder brother, told Express that Shailaj used to collect cash from a hotel in Electronics City. Shailaj, who is survived by a six-month-old baby, had called his family and informed them he would reach home by 9.30pm.

‘Daughter was waiting for Reddy to serve dinner’

Tiruapathi Reddy, who used to work as a cook, had gone to meet his relatives to talk about starting a new job with a PG centre at Electronics City. A resident of BTM Layout, he was planning to shift out. His relative revealed that his younger daughter was waiting for him to return so that she could serve him dinner.
