Woman patient dies after ambulance rams into private bus in Bengaluru

BENGALURU: A 46-year-old patient died and five others were severely injured after a speeding ambulance rammed into a private bus near a toll plaza on Tumakuru Road on Friday morning.

The deceased has been identified Eeramma, a native of Sandur in Ballari district. The injured are Jacobson, a male nurse, Vinaykumar, driver of the ambulance, and Kumaraswamy, K Veeresh, and Ratnamma -- relatives of the deceased.

Peenya traffic police said the incident occurred around 6.45 am on the busy NH4 near Peenya. Eeramma had suffered a cardiac arrest and was being shifted to Jayadeva Hospital from Ballari and hence the family had hired a private ambulance.

The speeding ambulance rammed into the Volvo bus, which belongs to Canara Pinto Travels, after the bus driver suddenly hit the brakes. Eramma died on the spot. Ambulance driver Vinaykumar suffered severe head injuries while Eeramma’s relatives sustained fractures. They were rushed to a private hospital, where they are recovering.

Peenya traffic police have arrested the bus driver Lance D’Souza for negligence.
