Aadhaar linking: Notice issued to state, central govt

BENGALURU: IN response to a public interest litigation challenging the linking of Aadhaar number and coupon system for implementation of the Public Distribution System (PDS), the High Court on Monday issued notice to the state, central government and deputy commissioner of Shivamogga.

The division bench of Chief Justice Subhro Kamal Mukherjee and Justice Ravi Malimath were hearing the petition filed by Gowramma and two others from Shivamogga.

The petitioners’ counsel argued that mandating coupon system and linking of Aadhaar number for distribution of ration from the fair price shops has made it difficult for those who come under below poverty line as they do not have Aadhaar cards and it is against the Food Security Act.

The petitioners have challenged the notification mandating coupon system and another notification linking of Aadhaar card number compulsorily to avail ration and kerosene from fair price shops.
