HASSAN : Rare migratory birds that flock the century-old Hunasinakere tank in Hassan every winter are reportedly being hunted at night.

The tank area turns into a mini bird sanctuary for three months during winter, as a number of migratory birds nest in trees for breeding.

With complaints of poachers hunting these birds, Ramesh, an environmentalist said, “The need of the hour is to take steps to protect the birds.”

Over fifty species of birds  from diifferent parts of the world come here between October and December.
The birds have become a major attraction among walkers and birdwatchers.
