BBMP goes hi-tech to deal with tax defaulters

Property tax defaulters, beware! Soon, BBMP revenue officials will be carrying a hi-tech device with them to track down property tax defaulters.

BENGALURU: Property tax defaulters, beware! Soon, BBMP revenue officials will be carrying a hi-tech device with them to track down property tax defaulters. The palm top device procured by the civic body will be put to use from December 27.

BBMP Commissioner Manjunath Prasad told Express: “CM Siddaramaiah will be launching the Geographic Information System(GIS)-enabled property tax mapping system.
“Our officials, including tax inspectors and revenue officers, will be given GIS-enabled palm top devices. Each of them will have tax details of each property. While passing through a particular street, officials can now check on the spot the details of property tax defaulters. Year-wise and amount-wise dues details can also be tracked through the machine,” he said.

“Tax payment details of each property will be shown in different colours. Officers can issue notice to the defaulters on the spot and collect the dues,” he said.
BBMP is procuring 500 such devices and each device costs ` 8,000. It will be easy to use and slightly bigger in size than the regular smartphones,” the commissioner said.

The BBMP has almost completed the GIS mapping of 16.5 lakh properties in its jurisdiction. It has given one month time to all the owners to declare their build-up area within one month and pay tax accordingly.
