Initiative to Bring Dropouts Back to School on Cards

BENGALURU:  Kripa Amar Alva, chairperson of the Karnataka State Commission for the Protection of Child Rights has said the commission is working on a social audit program at 73,000 government schools on initiating a programme to bring dropouts back to school.

The initiative will begin from April.

“We have to meet Ajay Seth, Principal Secretary, Primary Education, to take this programme further. The programme is yet to be titled and about 1.5 lakh volunteers will be roped in for a robust survey. About 9 lakh students are expected to go back to school under this programme,” Kripa Alva said.

Alva was speaking at the talent show organised by Sparsha Trust on Saturday.

Gopinath R Managing Director of the Trust, says, “This firm has been able to rehabilitate over 1,200 children at its six centers across Bengaluru.

“Many of our children have scored over 80 per cent in academics. Our aim is to make a few of them take up civil service exams,” he said.

Children Thankful

Sindhu, a student from Kolar says she opted out of the school when she was in 5th standard and four years back Sparsh team identified her and funded her education. “I have scored 82 per cent in Class 9; I want to become a software engineer in future,” she said.

Kanaka from Tamil Nadu, who migrated with her father ten years ago, says apart from her, two of her siblings are also sheltered here. “I have scored 95 per cent in 9th standard. I owe a lot to Sparsh,” she said.
