'Whitefield Rising' Chips in to Treat Sewage with BWSSB

BENGALURU: Activist group ‘Whitefield Rising’ will install an eco-friendly Sewage Treatment Plant near Kundanahalli Lake, which feeds into the Varthur Lake, in Whitefield.

“This zero-electric STP will be able to treat 0.8 Million Litres Per Day of Sewage, which is largely discharged from surrounding slum areas, before it is let out into the 30-acre Kundanahalli Lake,” Arvind Keerthi, a representative of the group, told reporters on the sidelines of ‘Water Conference 2016’ on Thursday.

The STP is being installed at a cost of Rs 2 crore under the Corporate Social Responsibility of companies. There are 5,000 slum dwellers and a huge number of bachelor accomodations around and this STP will help in treating all the sewage. “We plan to gradually increase the capacity to treat all the 3 Million Litres Per Day of sewage,” Keerthi said. The bhoomi puja for the STP will be held on February 22.
