BENGALURU: BJP leaders on Saturday demanded the resignation of Bengaluru Development Minister K J George and action against top BBMP officials alleging a major scam in the recent purchase of compactors for garbage clearance.

Speaking to reporters on Saturday, former Deputy Mayor S Harish said BBMP had purchased the compactors at a very high price. “BBMP has spent Rs 8.88 crore for purchasing 25 compactors, stating it had paid Rs 35,50,000 for each compactor,” he said.

Furnishing documents, Harish alleged that the bills procured from Ashok Leyland and Tata Motors reveal that the chassis of the each vehicle costs Rs 13,10,000 and Rs 12,50,000.

Charging that the price for each machine has been inflated by Rs 11 lakh for each compactor, Harish demanded to know who had got kickbacks.
