Commercial tax officer nabbed for taking bribe by Anti-Corruption Bureau sleuths

A commercial tax officer was trapped by Anti-Corruption Bureau sleuths while allegedly taking Rs 47,000 bribe on Saturday.

BENGALURU: A commercial tax officer was trapped by Anti-Corruption Bureau sleuths while allegedly taking Rs 47,000 bribe on Saturday.

The arrested official is Omkarappa, CTO, Chamarajpet Circle.  On October 21, Omkarappa was checking goods vehicles. He imposed a penalty of Rs 1.17 lakh on a vehicle after he noticed that the quantity of goods in the vehicle did not match with the details on the bill. According to rules, the CTO should issue a notice to the vehicle owner and receive a reply, before issuing the penalty order.

Omkarappa demanded Rs 20,000 bribe and received Rs 3,000 from the owner. He then stopped another vehicle of the same owner and demanded Rs 47,000, including Rs 17,000 arrears, Rs 30,000 for the second vehicle.
