Encounter in Bengaluru claims gangster, injures passerby

A hot pursuit of a gang wanted for an attempt to murder and a case under the Arms Act turned gruesome when things went out of control and the gang members started attacking the police. 

Around 5:30 pm on Monday, police, based on a tip, were chasing Dadiya Santhosh and gang on Ullal Main Road near Jnanabharathi. According to sources, the gang of six which was travelling by car, suddenly tried to take a U-turn when they saw a police jeep in front them. A motorist coming from behind was knocked down and sustained serious injuries. 

Following this, when the police caught up with the gang, one of the gang members Aisik attacked Mahalakshmi Layout police inspector with a machete. In self defence, the inspector fired at the accused who died, police officials said. Another cop Roopa was also injured. 

The police inspector of Mahalakshmi Layout is being treated in a private hospital in the city.

The other accused could not ve apprehended and are at large.
