BMTC bus knocks down girl

BENGALURU: A 19-year-old student died after a BMTC bus rammed into the two-wheeler she was riding pillion near Lakshmi Super Speciality Hospital in Sunkadakatte on Sunday.
The deceased is Mamatha, a resident of RPC Layout and a Bachelor of Pharmacy student in KLE College. The incident took place around 6pm when she was heading home with her younger brother Mahadev (17) after attending a function in one of their relatives’ house in Sunkadakatte. Mamatha was riding pillion and her brother Mahadev was riding the motorcycle.

The BMTC bus, that was heading towards Majestic hit the bike from the rear. While Mahadev fell on the right side, Mamatha came under the rear wheels of the bus and died on the spot. BMTC bus driver Shekar has been arrested by the police.
Kamakshipalya traffic police said, “Mamatha and Mahadev were not wearing helmets when the incident took place. There is some negligence on their part. We are also booking a case against the owner of the motorcycle and Mahadev, who does not possess a driving license.”
Mamatha’s body has been taken to her native Kalaburagi for the final rites.
