Pothole turns deathtrap for woman pillion rider

A water tanker ran over a 28-year-old woman riding pillion on a scooter after she fell when the rider was negotiating a pothole on a service road in Banaswadi on Tuesday evening.

BENGALURU: A water tanker ran over a 28-year-old woman riding pillion on a scooter after she fell when the rider was negotiating a pothole on a service road in Banaswadi on Tuesday evening.
The deceased is Hema, a resident of Banaswadi. She is survived by her husband and a one-and-half-year-old child.

Around 6.30 pm, Hema and her cousin sister were riding on the service road on a scooter bearing registration number KA-05 JW-8215. A pothole on the middle of the road distracted the rider and she lost her balance and fell to the left. Hema fell on the right side and a water tanker behind her  ran over her.
The vehicle’s registration number is KA-07 TA-2691.

Passersby rushed Hema to a nearby hospital where doctors declared her dead on arrival.
Police said, “Hema’s cousin was wearing a helmet when the incident took place. Hema was holding a helmet in her hand. The front wheel of the water tanker ran over her.”
Banaswadi traffic police have secured the rider of the scooter as well as the driver of the water tanker.
