BENGALURU: Bangalore University has directed all affiliated to colleges to cross verify the documents of those students who have got admission to various under graduate courses by submitting National Institute for Open Schooling (NIOS) certificates.

Following the recent case where Akash International Business Management College was caught admitting ineligible students with fake certificates in the name of NIOS, the university authorities directed colleges to verify students’ documents.

BU Registrar, administration Prof K N Ninge Gowda said that the university has warned of action against institutes and candidates if the documents are found to be fake. “There is a simple method to check. There will be a number provided by NIOS on the certificate and if it is genuine the registered number will found on its website. IF not the document will be declared as fake,” said Gowda.

According to university officials, most students got admissions to BCom and BCA by submitting certificates from NIOS.

Recently, Bangalore University filed a cheating case against Akash International Business Management College based on complaints received from students. The institute had admitted students who had failed in PUC by promising them of getting certificates from NIOS. But when results of such students were withheld by the university, the students staged a protest against the college management.

Police have arrested three management representatives of the college.
