BENGALURU: The Union Human Resource Development Ministry (HRD) has sent out a warning to schools across the country to train their teachers.In an official communication sent to all state governments and Union Territories, the HRD ministry has instructed that teachers at the government, aided and unaided private schools should undergo D.Ed training. The communication also stated that teachers without D.Ed will not be allowed to work after April 2019.
“It is reiterated that this will be the last chance to acquire the requisite minimum professional qualification. Any teacher in the aforementioned schools, who do not have the minimum qualifications mandated under the RTE Act 2009, would not be allowed to continue in service beyond April 1, 2019, and the procedure for dismissal shall be initiated against such teachers,” mentioned Anita Karwal, additional secretary of HRD department of school education and literacy, in her official letter to the principal secretary of the state department of primary and secondary education.
According to officials from the education department, this measure by HRD is to improve the quality of education by improving the quality of teachers. Meanwhile, the responsibility of ensuring training in-service teachers in government, aided and private schools has been given to respective states.
“At the state level, we have been asked to set up a committee under the chairmanship of principal secretary of primary education to monitor the progress and completion of training of all in-service untrained teachers at the primary level within the stipulated time,” said an official.
