BENGALURU: Upset over alleged police harassment, a 28-year-old history-sheeter committed suicide by consuming poison at his house in Bharathinagar on Saturday. A senior police officer said they were on the lookout for him as there was a court warrant on him in seven cases, but he had been absconding for the last few months.

The deceased Karthik is an automobile mechanic. He got married a couple of years ago. Karthik’s parents have filed a complaint with the Indiranagar police against Bharathinagar police alleging that he was being harassed on the pretext of questioning. He was forced to visit police stations after his marriage and to escape the frequent harassment, he would not come home. Upset over all this, he ended his life, the parents said.

A senior police officer said Karthik was involved in 13 cases including molestation and robbery and hence, he was listed in the history sheet. Karthik had been released from jail six months ago and a court had issued a warrant against him in seven cases registered in Pulakeshinagar, KG Halli and Commercial Street police stations.

Karthik did not appear before the court during the case hearings and hence police were searching for him. Fearing arrest, he ended his life and there was no harassment by the police. “We asked his family to send him to the police. He left no suicide note and his family are making baseless allegations,” the officer added.
