Notorious criminal Palani nabbed in South Bengaluru

BENGALURU: A notorious criminal who had allegedly committed multiple crimes, including murder and kidnapping, across the city over the last decade was nabbed by Konankunte police here on Saturday night.

Palani (32) was nabbed around 11.45 pm on Saturday night. According to the police, along with three others, he committed a robbery at a house within Konankunte police station limits in South Bengaluru on Saturday. The gang also assaulted a physically challenged man during the robbery. Following the incident, Konankunte tracked him down to a government school where he was hiding. When police personnel went to nab him, he attacked police constable Kiran Kumar's hand with a knife. In retaliation, about police personnel shot Palani's left leg, after which he was nabbed. Palani is currently undergoing treatment at a hospital. Constable Kumar sustained minor injuries.

Police said cases registered against Palani include a charge for murder within Koramangala police station limits, kidnapping a student at Bannerghatta, attempt to murder at Hulimavu and Tilak Nagar and robbery at JP Nagar. He has been active for the past 8-10 years. He initially resided at Jayanagar 3rd block, but after police under the direction of Inspector S Umesh of Jayanagar police station tried to nab him, Palani moved to Bannerghatta about one-and-a-half years ago, police sources said.

Palani is unmarried as per the police, and his parents are daily-wage labourers in Bengaluru.
