BENGALURU: Three people were injured when a cab crashed into two bikes, a speeding car and an auto before hitting a pan shop by the roadside at Chandra Layout near Byatarayanapura late on Tuesday night.
The driver, Uday Kumar(29), who was inebriated, was driving an Innova belonging to a travel agency.
The injured are Suresh (32), the auto driver, Satish (29), the pan shop owner, both residents of Magadi Road, and one of the bikers Nishanth (25), a resident of Chandra Layout. The other biker left the scene.
According to a senior police officer, the serial accident occurred around 11.30 pm. The bikers were severely injured while the auto driver escaped with minor injuries. A pedestrian too escaped with minor injuries.All the four vehicles were damaged.
Police said, “A passerby rushed the injured to a hospital in Vijayanagar. We are yet to take statements from the injured. Uday was taken for a medical test and it was confirmed he was under the influence of alcohol beyond permissible limit.”
Suresh, the auto driver, told Express, “I was heading towards Magadi Road to reach my house when the car rammed into my auto. I fell unconscious and am not aware what happened later.”
Satish, the pan shop owner, said that he was about to close his shop when the incident occurred.
Pradeep, a witness, said the driver first hit the divider before ramming into the vehicles.
“I followed him to flag him down as the driver was driving recklessly. When the driver hit the auto, the impact of the collision was such that the auto toppled twice, leaving the auto driver injured in his eyes and ears.”In his statement to the police, Uday said that he was returning home after attending a party along with his friends at a bar. He said that though they tried stopping him from driving, he left the place as he had to reach home by midnight as a friend was waiting for him.Police said Uday has been arrested for reckless driving.
