BENGALURU: A government school in Ramagondanahalli has been repeatedly vandalised by unidentified youths during the night for almost three years.Of late, construction debris is also being dumped within the school’s area during the night. In addition, snakes have reportedly been spotted numerous times within the school’s area in a part that is overgrown with vegetation.
The school’s Headmaster R Krishnappa said, “Some people come at night, drink here and break bottles in the school. They also deface the drawings and charts on the walls.”

The school registered a police complaint last year at the Varthur Police Station, after which a Hoysala vehicle comes to the school on its rounds. But they have never caught the miscreants red-handed.
Krishnappa added that snakes had been spotted on the grounds about six times in June.  Krishnappa lodged a complaint regarding the snakes with the the BBMP last week, and hopes that the Palike will take action soon. “If they bite one of the students, who will be held responsible?” he said. A total of 235 students study in classes I-VII at the school, and most of them are from economically weaker sections.
A member of Whitefield Rising said the main reason for all this was the lack of a compound wall. She said, “They only get `12,000 per year from the government for its maintenance, which includes cost of electricity and water bills. And the debris dumped by the contractors in the corner is slowly piling up.”
