BENGALURU: Namma Metro’s services on the Green Line (Yelachanahalli-Nagasandra) were halted for nearly an hour on Sunday due to a technical snag. This left thousands of passengers stranded.

BMRCL officials said a technical snag was reported between Yelachenahalli and Jayanagar metro stations around 2pm. “Train services from Yelachenahalli were resumed by 3pm at a frequency of 10 minutes, which was later increased to eight minutes to clear the rush,” said BMRCL spokesperson U A Vasanth Rao. He said no passengers were evacuated. “The trains were at the respective platforms. Those who wanted refund were refunded,” he added.

The snag forced several passengers to wait for a long time. Ranga V, a commuter, said, “It was complete chaos at the R V Road station as the staff were unaware about the reason for the delay. Initially, they asked us to go to Platform 2 and then later instructed us to return to Platform 1. A train was also stationed for more than 20 minutes,” he added. Ranga was among those stuck at R V Road station on Sunday afternoon.

Many vented out their anger on social media. Anand M S, a commuter, tweeted, “Please allow passengers to exit stations. Holding them in against their will is illegal! Stuck for 45 minutes in the J P Nagar Station! (sic)”.

Sumanth Bharatha, another commuter, tweeted, “Is there no refund policy? It seems many passengers asked for it and BMRCL employees at RV Road Station said we do not deal with it (sic)”.

Vijaykumar T tweeted, “Waiting in banashankari stop from past 1 hour for train. People are getting frustrated n too crowded here (sic)”
