BENGALURU: Hundreds of fish surfaced reportedly at Doddakallasandra lake, near Konankunte here, which residents on Tuesday blame on the continuous discharge of untreated sewage and chemicals released into the lake.

Despite bringing the incident to the BBMP’s notice, neither cleaning nor efforts to curb the discharge of effluents was undertaken. The stench of the dead fish with pollution, the area has been enveloped with a foul stench.

After waiting for civic authorities, local residents along with the corporator took up cleaning of the lake. Ravindran, a resident of the area said that they were shocked to see the dead fish.

"The smell is unbearable near the lake now. This lake has been neglected for years by the civic bodies. Since, we cannot live with such a stench anymore, we decided to clean the lake," he said.

When contacted, G Vidyasagar, CEO of Karnataka lake conservation and development authority said that he was aware of the issue and has directed officials to visit and take note of the situation.

This is not the first time Bengaluru has witnessed such an incident with similar situations at Ulsoor Lake, Sankey Tank and many others in the past.
