Two Bengaluru cops suspended for abusing senior official

Two police personnel of the Mahadevapura police station have been suspended until further enquiry for allegedly abusing a sub-inspector.

BENGALURU: Two police personnel of the Mahadevapura police station have been suspended until further enquiry for allegedly abusing a sub-inspector here on Saturday.Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Amruthesh and Head Constable Jaykumar are the suspended personnel. They had an altercation with Sub-Inspector Ashwath when he questioned them for not following the procedure before releasing 10 men detained on charges of street gambling.

According to the Mahadevapura police, the two suspended personnel and three other personnel detained 10 people who were allegedly carrying out street gambling at Narayanpura in North Bengaluru at 5.30 pm on Saturday. A sum of Rs 42,500 was recovered from them. All the men were brought to the station, and were let out on bail on the same day without preparing a non-cognizable report (NCR). The filing of NCR is mandatory before any person is granted bail.

Sub-Inspector of Mahadevapura station Ashwath was not present at the station when the 10 people were brought in. He returned to the station at 8.45 pm and found out about the incident. “When the SI them about why they released the trio on bail without filing an NCR, instead of giving him a proper explanation, they used abusive language against the ASI. Both of them have been suspended till further enquiry based on a report,” DCP (Whitefield) Abdul Ahad said. ACP of Marathalli has been asked to conduct the enquiry.

Inspector of Mahadevapura station Srinivas said the phones of all three personnel involved were unreachable on Sunday as they were upset. He said Ashwath had not come to the station for duty on Sunday. He confirmed that no past incidents of indiscipline have been reported against the two suspended officials.
