Two students studying in Bengaluru escaped from drowning at the Gokarna beach when alert lifeguards, with the help of jet-ski operators, spotted the students drowning and rescued them.

KARWAR: Two students studying in Bengaluru escaped from drowning at the Gokarna beach when alert lifeguards, with the help of jet-ski operators, spotted the students drowning and rescued them on Saturday. The students have been identified as Ramesh Yadav and Kamalesh Kumar, both students at a private hospital in Bengaluru.

According to the police, Ramesh, a native of Uttar Pradesh, and Kamlesh Kumar of Madhya Pradesh were in the tourist town along with five other students. Moreover, they were visiting the place without having informed their parents. While they were swimming in the Arabian Sea off Gokarna coast, Ramesh and Kamlesh were pulled into deep waters by the strong current.

Hearing their cries for help, on duty lifeguards immediately rushed into the water to rescue them. An adventure sports team, which was at the spot with jet-skis also assisted the lifeguards in saving the youth.

After the rescue operation, the duo were taken to the Gokarna government hospital for treatment and their friends also accompanied them. When police began to ask their details, the group of students only told the names of the victims and declined to give further details of their college saying that they had come to Gokarna without informing their parents and that they would be in trouble if they found out.

Meanwhile, when police were outside the hospital room, all seven students including the rescued duo, managed to escape from the hospital. Even after a thorough search police were unable to find the students. However doctors said that both the drowned students were out of danger.
