Teen drowns in quarry pit near Kothanur

A 19-year-old BBM student drowned in a quarry pit at Doddenahalli near Kothanur, on Thursday morning. The deceased is Akhilnath, a native of Kerala.

BENGALURU: A 19-year-old BBM student drowned in a quarry pit at Doddenahalli near Kothanur, on Thursday morning. The deceased is Akhilnath, a native of Kerala. Akhilnath was a third semester Bachelor of Business Administration student at a private college in K Narayanapura in Kothanur. He was staying in the college hostel and his parents live in Jalahalli in the city.

Police said that Akhilanath, along with three female classmates, had gone for an outing as it was a holiday for the college. They walked along the quarry and took several photographs. A few minutes later, Akhilnath went to swim but his friends advised him not to and told him that the quarry could be deep. But, did not pay heed and jumped into the quarry and asked them to take his photos. A few minutes into water, he started drowning. Immediately two girls ran to a nearby village and raised an alarm to rescue him. A passerby rushed to the spot and searched for him but in vain. Later, fire personnel were alerted and his body was fished out from the quarry pit.Kothanur police alerted his parents who work in a private firm. His body was cremated after postmortem.
