BENGALURU: Despite assurance from Bengaluru Development Authority (BDA) secretary Basavaraju last week to Arkavathy site allottees that 156 of them would be provided alternative sites, there was no progress on that front this week.

Meanwhile, as has been the norm every alternate Wednesday, a huge chunk of allottees, who lost their sites, thronged the BDA head office at Gutahalli hoping for justice.  Altogether 3,665 Arkavathy allottees lost their sites due to a series of denotification orders issued between 2012 and 2014. The GO issued on May 16 this year offering alternative sites at Nadaprabhu Kempe Gowda Layout has met with a lukewarm response from the site losers.

M Nagaraj, president of the Arkavathy Layout Allottees Action Forum, said the secretary had sought time till next Wednesday to hand over these sites.

The secretary, however, appeared to be backtracking on this assurance. Asked about the status of the handover, Basavaraju told Express, “It would be done shortly as there is some problem with them in the courts.” When asked to specify ‘shortly’ as it had been used by the BDA in connection with Arkavathy at least for two years now, Basavaraju disconnected the call.
