BENGALURU: A man committed suicide after killing his wife and daughter in Yelahanka New Town police limits. The incident came to light on Monday night.

The deceased are Amit Kumar Jha (35), his wife Meenakshi Jha (30) and their two-year-old daughter Manya. Amit stabbed his wife to death and fed poison to his daughter and wife before hanging himself.

The family was living in a rented house at Someshwaranagar here and were natives of Bihar. The couple had been living in the city for the past six years. According to police, both were graduates and Amit was unemployed of late. Meenakshi was running a pre-school near Dairy Circle for the past two years. Police sources said the incident came to light on Monday evening when a school teacher called Meenakshi over the phone but got no response.

She then sent school attendant Chennamma to check on Meenakshi. Chennamma found the house locked from inside and informed the house owner Jayappa, who found Amit hanging from the ceiling and the bodies of Meenakshi and Manya on the bed. Jayappa then informed the police.

Investigations revealed that Amit may have forcefully poisoned Manya and Meenakshi. He also strangled Meenakshi as there were wound marks on her neck. He then tried to stab himself and later hanged himself from the ceiling. Police said the incident may have taken place on Sunday night or early on Monday.

The last anybody heard from Meenakshi was a pre-school teacher named Akshata. Meenakshi messaged her saying she wanted to sell a property.

A police source said, “Amit would consume alcohol every day and the couple fought regularly during the night. The house owner had recently advised Amit to stop drinking. The couple lived on the first floor and there were tenants living next door. However, on the day of the incident, nobody heard any noise.”
