Kumar and Murugamma were natives of Chittoor district and were working as labourers in Bengaluru since many years. Senthil is a native of Tamil Nadu and worked as labourer in Bengaluru but shifted back to his hometown three years ago after marrying Sathyavathi.

Police said the incident took place around 8 pm on Friday when an inebriated Senthil picked a fight with Kumar and Murugamma.

In the heat of the argument, Senthil stabbed the couple. Sathyavathi, who was in the kitchen, rushed out hearing her parents’ screams when Senthil stabbed her in the leg.

Their neighbour Manjunath, who came to her rescue, was stabbed in the back. Other neighbours rushed the victims to a hospital nearby.

Police said, “Murugamma died on the spot while Kumar died while being shifted to hospital.”

Sathyavathi and Senthil Kumar fell in love and got married three years ago. They have a two-year-old daughter. They were residing in Tamil Nadu, but Sathyavathi, who was frustrated by Senthil’s alcohol addiction, moved back to her parents’ house in Bengaluru recently. Senthil used to frequently visit their house and ask Sathyavathi to return. But Kumar and Murugamma had refused to send her with him.

Konankunte police have registered a case and efforts are on to nab the accused.
