No shortage of power, says minister as Bengaluru sees multiple power cuts a day

Even as the city faces power cuts several times a day, Energy Minister D K Shivakumar has once again claimed that there is no shortage of power supply.

BENGALURU: Even as the city faces power cuts several times a day, Energy Minister D K Shivakumar has once again claimed that there is no shortage of power supply. He told reporters on Monday that despite severe drought, the state need not have to worry about power supply till May-end.

“The demand is increasing, but we are self-sufficient and have more than required. After meeting the daily demand, we have 1,000 MW in excess. If needed, we are ready to supply power to industries too,” he said.
He said the highest ever 10,242 MW demand was experienced on Shivaratri festival.

“We have instructed the setting up of 20 MW solar plants in taluks of 100 Assembly constituencies to decrease the cost of power supply,” he added.
